Using PEMF therapy for Fibromyalgia – Becci’s story

Dealing with life-long daily pain is stressful and draining on your energy and mood, which can prevent you from coping with day-to-day tasks. If you want to regain a normal routine, reduce pain and increase energy, you can like Becci Wilson did, by using Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy to treat her Fibromyalgia and longstanding pain, after being recommended the treatment by her Physiotherapist.

Becci used the Magnetovital wellness PEMF Full Body Mat to help reduce the pain she was experiencing all over her body due to her being a sufferer of fibromyalgia; she used the Sleep Programme on an evening and the Vitality Programme in the mornings for 20 minutes at a time and was very pleased with the results.

Becci describes her journey, ‘I was born with bilateral dislocation of the hip. I had several intense surgeries to correct the problem; this meant I didn’t walk until I was around 4 years old. But throughout school, I was able to play sports and didn’t really pay much attention to things I couldn’t do like sitting cross-legged, gymnastics or horsing riding. I had netball, basketball, and athletics to keep me busy!’. The hospital kept Becci under annual observation to make sure that her hips were behaving and she was due to be discharged at 16. Unfortunately at 17 Becci experienced a 2 week period where she could hardly move her left leg.

Disappointingly for Becci this kept reoccurring and despite an increase in medication, at 21 Becci had a total hip replacement on the left side as the hip had completely deteriorated. This did help briefly but then sadly the pain continued to get worse, spreading all over her body. She then had more major surgery, where her pelvis was broken and reconstructed. This meant Becci had to learn to walk again and it took 6 months of hydrotherapy and hard work and determination.  Becci shares, ‘the operation was in the October and I was due to get married in the August so my one goal was to walk down the aisle relatively pain free.’

As well as arthritis in the hips, and the degeneration of the lower discs in her spine Becci also suffered from muscle spasms, fatigue, restless legs, hypersensitivity to pain and restricted movement. This has all recently been diagnosed as Fibromyalgia.

Becci explains, ‘The excruciating pain led me to try soft tissue massage and some physiotherapy. I was impressed with the results, but despite being able to relax a little more the pain and negative impact on my quality of life continued. I would have good days and bad days but every day I would take a cocktail of strong medication which of course causes their own issues.’

Becci’s therapist put her forward to try PEMF therapy as she was experiencing widespread pain. Becci shares, ‘I have to admit I don’t really understand the science behind it and after what felt like a lifetime of various surgeries and treatments and medication I was sceptical.’

But Becci found the system really easy to use, ‘I used the mat first thing in the morning and then at night I put the PEMF mat on my bed and tried to relax. I initially used the programme at night and once the cycle had finished I was so drowsy. It was a strange feeling, but for the first time in months I slept like a baby.’

Becci noticed within the next couple of days she was very hot and sweaty after using the PEMF mat and her muscles were achy and felt heavy. Becci thought, ‘This wasn’t filling me with confidence!’ but persisted with the PEMF sessions.

Becci shares her experience, ‘By the end of the first week, I had more energy. I could cope with a full day at work and instead of needing to go to bed as soon as I got home I could cook dinner, do some housework and more importantly walk the dog. The pain had reduced dramatically and I had even been able to reduce my medication intake by 50%.’

Even Becci’s therapist noticed a difference in the way her muscles were responding to treatment- it was a much quicker response and less painful for the patient. Becci says, ‘It sounds odd but I could actually feel my body beginning to work properly.

Becci tells us, ‘Despite all of this evidence I was still sceptical! As it turned out I got a cold within the second week and was unable to continue with the therapy. Just a few days off the mat I noticed my nerve pain had returned and movement was restricted again. This was the proof I needed. I am enjoying my new lease of life being more active and eventually, I hope to be completely pain-free.

We have since received further Feedback from Becci about her PEMF therapy mat…

We received an email from Becci to tell us how she is getting on. Becci said ‘I am definitely more mobile and the nerve pain has reduced. There have been a few bumps in the road but honestly, I think that’s because I am moving more and my body just isn’t used to it.
I sleep better too which helps, so I know things will continue to improve.’

Becci shared with us that she is still using her PEMF therapy mat twice a day for half an hour each time, usually on setting 12 in the morning and 2 at night. Becci said ‘If I’m having a particularly bad day I will add a third on at level 6. There have been times when I’ve not used the therapy if, for example, we have been away for the weekend in our camper van. I do always feel very sore in the couple of days following a weekend away, I think this is a combination of not using the PEMF mat and also doing more walking etc. But … that’s the great thing, since using the PEMF therapy I can walk much more and my muscles have got a lot stronger. I still have days where I wake up and no matter what I do I’m in a lot of pain, but those days have become fewer and fewer. My medication is still reduced by 50%. I’ve not noticed any additional improvement, as it was so obvious when I first started using the PEMF therapy, so I wonder if I’ve hit a plateau now, but in comparison to how I was I feel much better, and on those days when I am sorer, it lasts for a shorter period of time.
I can’t recommend the PEMF mat enough and tell everyone I know with health issues like mine to get one!’

3 months later Becci sent us a further update on her PEMF experience and she said ‘I am now the best I have been for years. I am swimming three times a week and have also reduced my medication down to just Codeine and Naproxen, so thank you. I went for my regular soft tissue massage yesterday and she advised that I don’t need to come weekly now as the muscles are nice and soft. I’m feeling really well.’

Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field Therapy changed Becci’s life and although she was sceptical in the beginning she has now felt the full benefits of PEMF therapy and would happily recommend the PEMF therapy to others.
