Raynaud’s Awareness Month – Can PEMF help relieve symptoms?

Are you aware that February has been Raynaud’s Awareness Month? A month dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and what signs to look out for. Up to 10 million people in the UK have a form of Raynaud’s (That is around 1 in 6 of us!), yet according to SRUK nearly half of UK adults are unaware of any of the signs of Raynaud’s disease

What is Raynaud’s?

When exposed to the cold, a normal response of our bodies would be for the blood vessels to become narrower. When someone is affected by Raynaud’s the narrowing of their blood vessels will become more extreme, resulting in the colour of skin changing. There are two types of Raynaud’s, primary and secondary. With primary being the most common and much milder form of Raynaud’s, with secondary Raynaud’s being caused by another health condition developing into Raynaud’s syndrome.

What signs to look out for?

Some signs and symptoms that could be related to Raynaud’s disease to look out for can include cold fingers or toes; colour changes in your skin in response to cold exposure or stress; numb, prickly feeling or stinging pain upon warming or stress relief.

I suffer from Raynaud’s myself, often when it’s cold my feet often go a red or blue colour, and alongside that, I get a tingling sensation, almost of the likes of pins and needles when they are cold. Knowing that a common effect of PEMF therapy is improved circulation I did wonder whether I would benefit from using a PEMF therapy device myself and whether it would help relieve some of the symptoms that I experience because of my Raynaud’s.

I began to use the Biomag Lumina 3De, 3/4 length mat. I was advised to alternate between the pain-relieving effect program and the healing effect program for 20 minutes each evening, and as well as using the 3/4 length mat I was also advised to use the high-intensity localised applicator in between my feet as this is where I suffer the most to help focus the therapy there more. I have only been using the device for a handful of weeks but can already see that there is most definitely an improvement in the circulation in my legs, I have also noticed that there is slightly less of the tingling/ pins and needles sensation that I am used to experiencing frequently. I look forward to continuing to use the Biomag Lumina to see if it has any more effects on me.
