PEMF & Psoriasis
Was you aware that August is National Psoriasis Awareness month? This month is used to educate and inform sufferers on a range of topics varying from treatment, causes, triggers and management of the inflammatory and often irritating disease.
Firstly, what is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is an immune condition that causes symptoms on the skin and sometimes the joints. When a person has psoriasis, their skin replacement process speeds up, meaning it can take just days to replace skin cells that can usually take up to 21-28 days. Psoriasis affects around 2 in 100 people in the UK, and most commonly develops in adults between 20 – 30 years old, and 50 – 60 years old.
Symptoms of Psoriasis can include:
- Itchy, painful skin that can crack or bleed.
- Rashes or patches of red, often covered with silver coloured scales.
- Problems with your fingernails and toenails.
- Scaly plaques on the scalp.
Triggers that can make symptoms worse for sufferers can include:
- Cold, and dry weather.
- Stress.
- Some medicines.
- Infections.
- Skin Injury.
- Alcohol.
- Smoking.
Can PEMFs benefit those with Psoriasis?
Keeping in mind the PEMF therapy isn’t condition specific, and isn’t a cure for Psoriasis. Research has shown that PEMFs can reduce mast cells in the skin, these are the cells that cause itching, PEMFs have also been shown to help reduce inflammation, which is a common symptom of Psoriasis. With the Curatron PC having a specific program called ‘Psoriasis’ for those who have the condition to use.
