Can PEMF be used alongside other therapies?
“Magnetic therapies can and should be combined with other types of therapeutic approaches” Dr W Pawluk.
With this week being complementary therapy week, we thought we would share how PEMFs can, and should be used alongside some more traditional therapy methods. Due to PEMFs working on such a basic level, their effects are enhanced with the use of other modalities.
Massage therapy and PEMF therapy can significantly improve the benefits of each other. PEMF therapy has been shown to help relax the muscles as well as being a great tool for overall wellness, so using this prior to massage therapy will allow the massage therapist to get deeper into the tissues more easily. Using a combination of both PEMF and massage could help to prevent problems from developing or worsening.
PEMF therapy is also recommended to be used alongside acupuncture. PEMFs act directly on tissues and cells in the area of the magnetic field applied, which will be larger than the area where the acupuncture is applied, however, acupuncture can help to relieve pain immediately, but only as a temporary fix. So the two work well in conjunction together.
PEMFs can also be used alongside Infrared therapy, and when used in conjunction, the person will be getting a broader range of frequencies.
Laser therapy and PEMF can be used simultaneously, or before or after the laser therapy. As Laser therapy is more focused, it will only be treating the area that is being targeted by the laser beams, however, PEMF can have a larger treatment area depending on the device that is being used.
